Security

Eight stadiums – four in Austria and four in Switzerland - will host the UEFA EURO 2008™ final tournament. Security, in all its aspects, will be one of the main concerns; not only within the stadiums and its surrounding areas, but also in the cities and in the routes that link them. While Euro 2008 SA will be in charge of the private security, e.g. in stadiums, official hotels and team base camps, public security is the responsibility of the host countries.

Each of the stadiums – in Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Vienna (Austria) and Basle, Berne, Geneva and Zurich (Switzerland) - has been conceived according to complex accommodation and security infrastructures filled with the most advanced technological access control, video surveillance, security, sound communication and information systems, will ensure all spectators of a sense of well-being and a feeling of security. “We made very good experiences in Portugal (in 2004),” says Chief Operating Officer Euro 2008 SA, Martin Kallen. “The area around the stadium is of great importance, in terms of diverting the fans. Co-operation with the participating nations is also essential.“ Austria and Switzerland have already mapped out their security plans, with the signing of a joint security policy by the two countries marking an important step in September 2005.
